With his guitar and five string banjo in tow, Gary Dulabaum, who has been called “the voice of humor in a world gone musical,” one-lines his way across the country entertaining audiences of all-ages at venues as varied as the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, The Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi, the Beverly Hills Library System in Beverly Hills, California, Nectar’s in Burlington, Vermont, the Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, Monktstown, County Dublin, Ireland, the Holland Westerdam Cruise Ship, Alaska Inside Passage, The Grand Canyon and the Kent State Folk Festival, Kent, Ohio.

Along the way, Gary has shared the stage and opened for musicians of all types of music including internationally acclaimed children’s recording artist Ella Jenkins, the late Americana folk singer Utah Phillips, the late Statesboro, Georgia jazz musician Emma Kelley (piano playing actress from Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil), singer, songwriter and guitarist, Josh White, Jr., the great County Clare, Irish fiddler Tony Linane, the undisputed master of the Irish concertina, Noel Hill, and Eddie Burris and the New Strangers (Merle Haggard’s former back-up band). 

Growing up in that rich Northeastern  Ohio music scene where bluegrass, old timey, country, rock, punk, jazz and folk were all being played, Gary’s earliest musical influence was his guitar & ukulele-playing father, Marion Dulabaum, who also sang tenor in a quartet. As a young boy, Gary also found musical inspiration from two great aunts: Ruth and Helen Chapel of Akron, Ohio. Ruth was a jazz pianist and poet who loved to play Gershwin tunes and Helen was a folk ballad singer whose singing was collected by the late Ohio folklorist Mary Olive Eddy. Helen's version of the folk ballad "Mary Maid of the Moor" appears in the Ballads and Songs from Ohio collection.

A third aunt, Nelle, helped Gary buy his first five string banjo after he heard a recording of Pete Seeger playing “John Henry” at the Kent State Folk Festival. The rest is history.

These days, 33 years later, Gary is now a quick-witted singer, songwriter, musician, recording artist, comedian, emcee and entertainer who travels the highways and byways of America offering high-energy shows laced with traditional old time banjo and fiddle tunes, old standards, rock and old country cover tunes, and his original songs. Gary's songwriting is heavily influenced by his love of Americana and folk music, rock n’ roll bands from the late sixties to the late seventies, his love of poetry and his desire to compose a pretty tune for his words. Interspersed between songs, Gary shares his true-to-life humorous monologues and stories that alone are worth the price of admission.

As a songwriter Gary has been commissioned to write songs for numerous special events such as The Pioneer Woman Award Celebration in Ponca City, Oklahoma and the dedication of The Chisholm Trail Monument in Duncan, Oklahoma.

Through the years, Gary has played in several bands including the Ohio-based Champeen Cat Gut Ticklers and the Vermont-based Jake Leg Hobblers. Both bands specialized in old timey stringband music. Gary also plays several times a year with his bass-playing father, Marion, multi-instrumentalist, singer Mark Sustic and has played with roots-rocker, singer/ songwriter,Josh Brooks.

No matter the size of the venue, Gary’s humor and talent fills the room and gets you involved no matter what your age. Gary is a natural entertainer to people of all ages and has a great knack for putting an audience at ease and entertaining them.

Josh Brooks  - the much lauded roots-rocker, singer, songwriter, educator. Using harmonica, guitars, banjo, quick wits and voices pretty enough to make their mothers cry, this high-energy duo travel that musical highway of Americana, traditional and original tunes singing about the places they’ve been and the people they have met.

Mark Sustic - a multi-instrumentalist (bass, guitar, mandolin, banjo and fiddle) and dance caller for cajun, contra and family dances. Their concerts include traditional tunes as well as Gary's originals on a variety of instruments.They both share a love of traditional old time music.

Marion Dulabaum -  Gary’s dad, Marion, is like a walking, talking encyclopedia of great tunes. He sings, plays great bass guitar and came up with the great line,”If you’re too old to shake it, just turn it now and then.” Their shows inlcude humor, cover tunes, old chestnuts, jazz, swing, old country, rock, folk and Gary's originals. They play for all ages and all types of venues.

Denny Dulabaum - Gary's oldest brother Denny plays guitar and tenor banjo and has a great singing voice. They do lots of covers from REM to Bob Dylan to Eric Clapton to the Dillards to Jesse Fuller to the Allman Brothers making frequent musical stops to allow another favorite to jump on board. Gary & Denny are usually joined by their dad, Marion, on bass and vocals.
